What is it like to live on Las Vegas National Golf Course?

Las Vegas National is one of the oldest golf courses in the city, and the homes around it are some of the closest golf course homes to the Strip. The course opened in October 1961 as the Stardust Country Club, designed by Bert Stamps, at 1911 East Desert Inn Road. It has been the Sahara-Nevada Country Club, the Sahara Country Club, and the Las Vegas Hilton Country Club, and took the Las Vegas National name in 1998.

The history is the draw. The course hosted the LPGA Championship from 1961 to 1966 and PGA Tour events from 1967, with winners including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Lee Trevino. Tiger Woods won his first PGA Tour event here in 1996. The Rat Pack played it in the 1960s, and it shows up in the movie Casino.

For buyers, this is an established central neighborhood rather than a master-planned community. Homes are older, lots and floor plans vary street by street, and some homes back onto the fairways. The course is public and run separately from the homes, so there is no club membership to buy, and HOA rules depend on the subdivision. You are about 10 minutes from the Strip, the airport, and UNLV.

Before you buy

What should you check before buying near Las Vegas National?

Get a full inspection on an older home, ask whether there is an HOA, and get an insurance quote for the exact address before you remove contingencies.

  1. Inspection on an older home

Many homes here are decades old. Ask about the roof, plumbing, sewer line, electrical panel, and air conditioner, and consider a sewer scope.

  2. HOA or no HOA

Some subdivisions and townhome complexes have an association and some homes have none. Ask for the resale package if there is one, with dues, special assessments, and transfer fees.

  3. Golf course lots

On a fairway lot, ask about stray balls, the view fence, and any easement. The course is owned and run separately from the homes.

  4. Insurance quote for the exact address

Premiums vary by street, age of the roof, and pool. Get a quote on the actual address early, not a general estimate.
