Southern Highlands Golf Club is the guard gated center of Southern Highlands. Every home inside sits on private roads reached only through three staffed gates, and the grounds are planted with more than 17,000 trees, so many homes are hidden from the street by mature landscaping. It is where Southern Highlands keeps its biggest estates, and where many of its pro athletes, casino executives, and business owners live.
Inside the gates are several neighborhoods, each with its own homes and price range. The Estates at Southern Highlands holds the largest custom homes, some over 19,000 square feet, many on the course. Beleza has semi-custom homes by Christopher on lots of about a third to half an acre. Resort Villas start around 1,900 square feet and are the lower-maintenance way into the gates. The Masters has larger single-family homes, and Olympia Ridge, behind a second gate on the hillside, is where new custom homes are still going up.
The course is a private 18-hole design by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his son, Robert Trent Jones Jr., one of the few courses the two laid out together. Golfweek ranked it 41st on its 2014 list of best residential courses, and the clubhouse was named the top clubhouse in the country by the Golf Digest Index in 2015. Owning a home inside the gates does not make you a member; membership is separate and optional. The I-15 is a few minutes away, and the south end of the Strip is about 15 minutes.
