Spanish Trail opened in 1984 as one of the first guard gated golf communities in Las Vegas, and for years it was the city's best known luxury address. It covers about 640 acres between Tropicana Avenue and Hacienda Avenue, from Rainbow Boulevard west to Durango Drive, behind perimeter walls and three staffed gates.

What buyers notice first is the landscaping. Forty years of growth means tall trees, green fairways, and lakes you do not find in the newer master plans. The name comes from the Old Spanish Trail, the trade route that once ran through the valley.

Homes range from townhomes to golf course homes to large custom estates, most built in the 1980s and 1990s, so many have been remodeled and some still wait for it. That age is part of the appeal for buyers who want a big lot and a central location without paying for brand new construction.

The Spanish Trail Country Club sits in the middle of the community with 27 holes by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The club has hosted the PGA Tour's Las Vegas Invitational. It is a private club with its own membership, separate from the HOA, so living here does not require joining.
