What is it like to live in Sun City MacDonald Ranch?
Sun City MacDonald Ranch is the smaller, quieter Sun City in Henderson. Del Webb built its 2,513 homes between 1996 and 2001 on the first village of the MacDonald Ranch land, at the base of the foothills off Horizon Ridge Parkway. It was Del Webb's second 55+ community in the valley, after Sun City Summerlin.
The homes are compact and easy to live in: 18 floor plans, mostly single story, from about 1,000 to just over 2,000 square feet, and a section of attached villas. Because the community is all one age, the streets are calm, and the newest homes here are now more than 20 years old, so updates, roofs, and air conditioning units vary a lot from house to house.
Life centers on the Desert Willow Clubhouse, a 36,000 square foot building with a fitness center, a dance and aerobics room, a ballroom with a stage, a library, billiards, meeting rooms, and craft studios, along with the Willow restaurant. Outside there is a lap pool and spa, bocce, tennis, and walking paths. The Desert Willow Golf Course, a Billy Casper and Greg Nash design, is a short 18 hole course that the residents own, and it has some of the best valley views of any course in Henderson.
Location is the other draw. The 215 Beltway is next door, The District at Green Valley Ranch and the hospitals on the east side of Henderson are a few minutes away, and the airport is about 15 minutes by car. Sun City Anthem, about ten minutes south, is the larger Del Webb option with three recreation centers.
